The competition

STEM Racing.

STEM Racing, previously known as F1 in Schools, is described by the Re-engineering Australia Foundation as the “foremost student competition for STEM”. It's the competition Eclipse is racing in — and it's a bigger stage than most people realise.

How it works

Design,
build,
race.

Teams design and race a miniature F1-inspired car while building a recognisable brand at the same time. The cars are powered by a CO2 canister and race down a 20 metre track — the best in the world cover it in under a second.

Doing well takes more than speed. Teams are judged on engineering portfolios, branding and presentation as well as raw performance, which means it draws the same multi-disciplinary skills as a real motorsport or engineering business: design, analysis, testing, manufacturing, project management and entrepreneurship.

It's run with real industry partners behind it, which is why sponsors see it as more than a school project — it's a pipeline of engineers who are already used to solving real problems under real deadlines.
